Style and Design

A class designed to help become aware of software applications and implementations of online public relations activities, such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and working with HTML code. Style & Design incorporates traditional PR practices into technology emerging digital media and social networks.


Goals are to understand the planning, implementation and evaluation components of the public relations planning process and capably integrate them into a strategic communication plan, apply analytical and critical-thinking skills to effectively assess PR problems and opportunities and understand primary and secondary research methods for researching public relations problems and opportunities.

Writing for Public Relations

This course gives the necessary tools needed to be able to craft any type of public relations writing piece including, but not limited to, press release or news release, bios, backgrounders, captions or cutlines, radio PSAs, social media releases and cover letters and resumes. Case Studies

Learning how to evaluate current and past public relations cases and learning how to conduct positive campaigns for a client.

Survey and Research Methods

A course designed to understand the research techniques and practices necessary for conducting public relations campaigns.


Persuasion focuses on theoretical foundations, audience factors, source factors, message factors, group application, and individual application. This course approaches the study of persuasion from a social science perspective, utilizing research primarily from communication and social psychology. The course concentrates on its application in advertising and public relations.

Foundations of Public Relations

An overview of public relations, looking at communication skills and technologies necessary for successful public relations.


Newswriting focused on understanding the basics of writing for a newspaper or publication. The class was centered around using AP style while writing about different types of events. Throughout the semester I covered and wrote about City Council meetings, trial hearings at the Lee County Justice Center, and speakers on campus. This course was a great peek into the world of reporting and journalism and will come in handy when writing for public relations.
